The River Thames winds its way around the city of Oxford passing colleges and water meadows. To visit this magnificent town and not explore it by boat, would be missing a trick.
If you don’t fancy trying your hand at the Oxford tradition of punting, the river cruises running from Folly bridge are the next best thing. Follow it with dinner, Afternoon Tea or cocktails on the riverside terrace.

The Folly Oxford
Folly Bridge links the South of the city to central Oxford. It’s a popular drinking spot with the Head of the River pub to the north and The Folly restaurant to the South. Both have lovely terraces overlooking the water. Step aboard one of The Folly’s two river cruisers to explore this scenic stretch of the River Thames and it will take you past Christchurch meadows, the university regatta course and the boat houses. This is where the early morning training sessions take place in preparation for Oxford Eights Week, a 4-day regatta held in May.

Cruise and Dine at The Folly Restaurant
Choose the dinner cruise and sip a glass of Prosecco during your two hour cruise before dining in the Folly restaurant or, weather permitting, outside on the floating terrace. The smaller picnic boat is fun too. With the option of taking a lunchtime or a sunset cruise, this is a delightful and relaxing way to soak up the sights of the city. If you prefer to stay on drier land, Afternoon Tea on the floating terrace is a popular choice.

- For an alternative way to enjoy the river in Oxford, dine at the Cherwell Boathouse Restaurant and go punting
- The Head of the River pub, owned by Fuller’s Brewery, offers comfortable rooms for an overnight stay
- Walk along Port Meadow and savour a riverside pint in The Trout, a favourite pub of Inspector Morse
