Bettys, Yorkshire’s finest Café Tea Rooms, opened its own cookery school in Harrogate in 2001. Craft bakers – it’s the place to perfect your patisserie skills or choose from a wide range of enticing courses.

The school won the Best Large Recreational Cookery School award in 2013 and was highly commended for 2014. If you want to master the art of chocolate-making, patisserie and baking, you’ll be in very good hands here.

The school, which was set up by family founder Lesley Wild, is located in the lovely spa town of Harrogate. It’s next door to Bettys Craft Bakery where they make all the breads, cakes and chocolate for their six Bettys Café Tea Rooms including the two that are in nearby York.

Enjoy A Slice of Bettys

We especially love the sound of ‘A Slice of Bettys’ which shares some of Bettys most sought after secrets and takes you on a rare tour of their Craft Bakery. They demonstrate how to create a selection of classic Bettys fare including Swiss rösti, Yorkshire curd tart, Swiss fitness bread, white bread rolls and hand crafted chocolates. Afterwards, you get to enjoy a dainty and indulgent Bettys Afternoon Tea.

Get Baking or Relax and Watch a Demonstration

With the exception of its certificate courses that provide a foundation in cooking skills, courses are either one day or half day. For a more relaxed approach, they also offer demonstration classes where you can sit back, relax and be inspired as you watch their expert chefs show you how to prepare a selection of delicious dishes from start to finish.

Tips

Don’t leave Yorkshire without trying one of their famous Fat Rascals which are said to originate from the Yorkshire Turf cake. Visit the Hearths and Kitchens exhibition at York Castle Museum or take Afternoon Tea at Bettys in York
Do their Piece of Cake course and learn how to make a delicious Bakewell Tart. This is entirely different to the traditional Bakewell pudding.
Bettys add smoky Moor Ale produced by the Little Valley Brewery to their Christmas pudding and savoury dishes such as their Yorkshire rarebit scone
