A Taste of Winter in London

Big names such as Gaucho, Club Gascon, Brindisia Tapas Kitchens and Hixter participate in this unique winter-themed feast. Visitors buy ‘Crowns’ the official festival currency which is accepted by all the restaurants and bars at the show. You look at the menus and decide where you want to dine for each course. It’s a fun way to taste iconic restaurant dishes without breaking the bank.

Watch Celebrity Chefs in The Taste Theatre

Throughout the 4-day event, there’s always an impressive line up of celebrity chefs to watch in action at the Taste Theatre. People such as Monica Galetti, former sous-chef at Le Gavroche and presenter of MasterChef: The Professionals, rise to the challenge of preparing dishes such as cuttlefish with a saffron rice risotto in 30 minutes (done with great charm and skill).

Take Part in Masterclasses

With a busy programme of events that changes each year, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. You can get ready for Christmas by perfecting your cocktail making skills at a masterclass or watch the Fire Pit demos where chefs like Ben Tish from Salt Yard and Valentine Warner show people how to create a winter BBQ. Chargrilled deer anyone?

Go Champagne Shopping

Many shoppers head straight to the champagne bar and enjoy a wander around the stalls, glass of fizz in hand. There are usually around 200 artisan producers exhibiting so you can shop ‘til you drop and stock up on Christmas presents and seasonal produce.

Party The Night Away

Music features throughout the show with Coffee House Sessions from a big line-up of musicians at the Bandstand. If you’ve bought an evening ticket, you can party the night away. Guest DJs have included Alex James, ex Blur bassist turned cheese maker, and organiser of The Big Feastival in the Cotswolds.

Tips

  • Wear a warm coat. Parts of the venue are open to the elements so it can get cold
  • Buy your Crowns online before the event to avoid queuing at the show
  • Take advantage of the Home Delivery service provided
  • If you’ve had a good time, put ‘Taste of Summer’ in your diary. It’s held in London’s Regent’s Park every June

Cook’s Tip

Monica Galetti advised that the black ink of cuttlefish can be used to add flavour to sauces but it should be used in moderation as it can quickly overpower a dish.
