Situated on the historic A5 coach road between Shrewsbury and North Wales, the Rhug Estate Organic Farm is a top notch pitstop for hungry travellers heading for Snowdon and the Llyn Peninsula.

Whether you pop in for a takeaway, to enjoy an organic bison burger in the bistro or to stock up on supplies in the Rhug Farm Shop for the journey ahead, it’s sure to meet your needs admirably and is well worth the detour.

Last year, Rhug Estate expanded its food offering and made history by opening the first farm Drive Thru.

Experience Great Taste in Wales

Established in the 1990s by Lord Newborough, the Estate’s 6,700 acre organic farm is now a world recognised brand.  It’s particularly known for its meat and has received numerous Great Taste awards. Voted ‘Best On Farm Restaurant’ in 2013 (FARMA), it was also nominated by The Sunday Times as one of ‘Britain’s 20 Best Farm Shops’.

Eat a Bison Burger in the Rhug Estate Restaurant

It’s not often you can stop off for an organic bison burger but nestled next to the farm shop, is the award-winning Bison Grill offering all-day dining where the burgers have been a hit since 2007. You’ll find that bison meat is sweeter, richer and more tender than beef.

Take Away On The Hoof

A favourite with weekend bikers, walking groups and coach parties is the Rhug Farm’s takeaway ‘On the Hoof’. The menu here reads like that of any traditional roadside café however,  it’s as far removed from any ‘greasy spoon’ café you may have encountered. Baps are made with matured rump steak and dry cured gammon, while the burgers have organic Aberdeen angus beef and local lamb.

Cook’s Tip

Bison meat is healthy to eat, being low in cholesterol and fat, low in calories and high in protein. Native Americans used to flavour it with wild blueberries.
