If you’re considering indulging in a chocolate afternoon tea in London, I can assure you that Hotel Chocolat’s afternoon tea is a delicious chocolate-themed extravaganza. Book in for one at their stylish restaurant Rabot 1745. It’s located in Borough Market, London’s renowned food market.

At £30 a head (based on 2 people sharing), it’s also excellent value. Reserve a table on the terrace on Saturday afternoon and you can taste chocolate sensations while watching the activity in the food market below.

Downstairs, you’ll find their chocolate café and shop where you can browse their entire range of mouth-watering chocolates and gifts. On a chilly winter’s day I like to have a rich hot chocolate here when the café has the feel of an après-ski bar. Follow it with a brisk walk along the Southbank – there’s always so much to see.

Rabot 1745

Rabot 1745 is named after the cocoa plantation in St Lucia owned by Hotel Chocolat. The chocolatier now has a chain of chocolate cafés and shops across Britain offering chocolate-lovers an innovative range of chocolates and tasting adventures.

Its two restaurants, with their contemporary furnishings and glass lighting, provide a sophisticated dining experience with a Scandi feel.

Treat Yourself to a Hotel Chocolat Afternoon Tea

Hotel Chocolat’s Afternoon Tea is a luxurious spread of cocoa delights, both savoury and sweet, served with hot drinks or glasses of chilled Prosecco.

Savouries include sandwiches with fillings such as creole chicken and pumpkin mayonnaise, pea and tarragon mousse on rye sourdough and rare beef with white chocolate horseradish.

Chocolate Tea Delights

As you’d expect, there’s a baked scone (sultana and cinnamon served warm and fresh from the oven), but you’re invited to layer it with either traditional strawberry jam or 70% chocolate ganache.

With a chocolate and cherry opera gateau, a strawberry and vanilla cheesecake and tasting chocolates to follow, it’s generous, too. So generous in fact, we were unable to finish it. Don’t worry, as if by magic, doggy bags appear at the table so everyone can take home a chocolate treat.

Dog Policy Mr Hendricks says, “Rabot 1745 do an excellent ‘choc au vin’. When making a stew, add grated chocolate to give it a more intense flavour”.
