This is Edinburgh’s equivalent of the City of London Distillery (COLD), a micro gin distillery close to St Paul’s Cathedral. The Edinburgh Gin Distillery is located in the Heads and Tales bar near to Edinburgh Castle. Pop in for a gin tour, to enjoy a few drinks with friends or to mix botanicals to your taste and create your very own gin.

A Taste of Edinburgh Gin

Owned by the Spencerfield Spirit Company, the Edinburgh Distillery makes small batches of gin. Their Edinburgh gin is distilled within view of Edinburgh Castle, using the finest Scottish grain spirit, infused with juniper, citrus peel, orris root and angelica. To add even more finesse to its Scottish pedigree, they add Scottish botanicals including milk thistle and heather.

Take a Gin Discovery Tour

Start your gin-education by doing a Gin Discovery Tour. You’ll learn the story behind Edinburgh’s gin and learn about the distillation process. Included in the tour is a free sample or a miniature bottle of Edinburgh Gin to take home with you. There’s also a small exhibition area.

Become a Gin Connoisseur

For a more detailed tour and a tutored tasting, opt for the Gin Connoisseur Tour. You’ll taste Edinburgh Gin but also one of their delicious gin infusions – raspberry, spiced orange or elderflower. Included in the tour is a 20cl bottle of gin for you to take away.

Make Your Own Gin

For a real gin treat why not try making your own gin? At the end the distillery tour, you’ll use your own baby still to blend a one-off custom gin of your choice. Once you’ve bottled and labelled it, you can relax and enjoy tasting the gin. It makes an ideal present for a gin-loving friend or family member.
